As OPEC pushes the price of oil higher, American families are struggling to earn enough money to buy groceries and fill up the gas tank.
Enough is enough. It is time to meet our energy needs with an American solution.
Sign this petition, Energy Independence For America, and join Congressman Tim Murphy in asking Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Minority Leader John Boehner to work together and have the House of Representatives take immediate action on energy independence. By exploration, diversification, and conservation of our domestic energy resources, we can lower energy prices.
In the last thirty years, the United States has become more dependent on foreign oil. OPEC openly manipulates prices upward by limiting supply. Some OPEC leaders are even calling for $200 per barrel oil and are refusing to increase production.
I, the undersigned, call upon Congress to:
- Permit environmentally responsible oil exploration and drilling off America's coastline, in northern Alaska, and in the Western Rockies, where two trillion barrels of shale oil are located
- Encourage the construction of new Super Clean coal electric plants
- Expand research and development of alternative energy sources, such as non-food ethanol fuels and hydrogen fuel cells
- Expedite licensing and construction of zero emission nuclear power plants
- Allow construction of the first new U.S. oil refineries in 30 years
- Support production of more fuel-efficient automobiles, accessible and efficient public transit, and undertake other energy conservation measures
- Energy Independence for America
