Dear Friends and Supporters,

Health care "reform" continues to dominate the headlines, and I believe it's important to continue keeping you updated on developments and news.

It's been interesting to watch the indecision, second guessing and Democrat's intra-party battles over how best to achieve health care reform.

While the President pushed early on for a "public option" this spring, he backed off that key Democrat reform last month in an address before both houses of Congress. That change of course was a result of democracy in action because politicians got the message loud and clear: millions of Americans voiced their displeasure at a government take-over of healthcare in letters, town halls, and phone calls.

The average Americans who came out to those town halls were called "un-American" and minimized by the Democrat leadership. They denounced the literally millions of people who showed up for the first time to town halls and other public events as manufactured protests, or, "Astroturf" movements, instead of genuine "grassroots" civic involvement.

But aside from the legislative arm twisting in Congress, the President and his campaign team are now reopening their Chicago style campaign playbook to organize - rather - manufacture, an "Astroturf" movement of their own. Their goal? To push this government insurance albatross on top of every taxpayer in America, and strong-arm Democrat members of Congress into backing a bill when they have very real concerns about long term costs and quality of care.

You see, after the election, the President turned over his list of campaign supporters to form a new group, "Organizing for America." That group, which claims to have paid staff in 48 states, is actively lobbying citizens to reach out to their neighbors, to call (and pressure) their congressman, and gives every pointed direction straight down to the script they should be reading, to get Washington to enact this government takeover of your health care.

They even had a live rally last week in Manhattan that was broadcast across the internet to thousands of organizers who stood ready to make calls and begin their lobbying campaign.

The President may be talented at giving speeches and whipping up a crowd to support empty campaign rhetoric, but friends, let's look at the fine print details of the bills in Congress and the costs associated with them. There are no quality reforms that will bring about better care or a lower price. At the end of the day, the Democrat Plan is a tax on everyone who right now has an insurance plan, goes to the doctor or hospital, and raises taxes on everything from medical equipment like wheelchairs and eye-glasses to walking canes. All to fund a government run insurance company that will be overwhelmed when 70% of private citizens are estimated to be dropped from their current coverage and forced onto the government plan.

The President should stop these Chicago-style tactics and get working with Republicans and commonsense Democrats on bi-partisan solutions that protect patients, the uninsured, and the all-too-often forgotten taxpayer. I've repeatedly outlined six goals for health care reform with specific, cost-saving ideas that can be implemented immediately. We stand ready to help in a reform effort that brings real, workable solutions for patients, doctors and taxpayers.

Can You Believe It?

John Podesta, who leads one of the Democrat Party's top policy think tanks, hinted Sunday that perhaps the best way to pay for health care reform is by taxing legalized marijuana.

AP Fact Check on False Democrat Claims

On Sunday, the Associated Press ran a story analyzing Democrat claims that one of the reasons a costly public option is needed is because insurance companies have made "immoral profits" that have "skyrocketed" over the last eight years. Although there is a clear need for reform in the health care industry to control costs and increase quality of care, the AP found that these claims are inaccurate, and that "Insurers are an expedient target for leaders who want a government-run plan in the marketplace." They added that these Democrat critics are on "shaky ground." Members of Congress on both sides should be objectively looking at the facts and doing what is right for the American people, instead of relying on untrue political attacks to advance a political agenda.

Sincerely,

Tim Murphy
