The No-Drill Energy Bill

September 17, 2008
By:
Murphy For Congress

Yesterday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi proposed a no-drill, energy bill and hastily scheduled a vote. Click here to read why Congressman Murphy voted against this flawed piece of legislation.

In the words of Democratic Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, this bill is “dead on arrival in the Senate.” (CongressDaily, 9/15/08)

The House proposal, written by Speaker Nancy Pelosi without input from the Energy and Commerce Committee of which Congressman Murphy is a member, doesn’t give states a dime. Simply put, no state will permit drilling off of their coasts when they can't profit from it. The Speaker's bill also permanently declares 88 percent of America’s offshore energy resources off-limits, raises utility rates, and increase taxes on gas/oil producers and consumers. (RollCall, 9/15/08)

Drilling on the OCS would mean we are using American oil and not OPEC’s oil, creating American jobs and not jobs for OPEC nations, investing in the future of America and not the future of OPEC, and protecting the national security of America, rather than funding the bullying dictators in Iran, Russia, and Venezuela.

If you haven’t already, please sign the Congressman's petition to the House leadership at Energy Independence For America and tell them that you want real, bipartisan energy legislation.
