To help U.S. employers compete in a world market, Tim has worked on legislation that lowers operating costs, reduces taxes, and frees businesses from onerous regulation. American companies will thrive in the global economy if they are relieved of the burdens that diminish their competitiveness.
For example, Tim helped to pass energy legislation that allowed Westinghouse to expand operations and hire science and engineering graduates from our local universities. As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Tim has been instrumental in funding local research of hydrogen fuel cells and clean coal technologies. These projects have meant more jobs in the local mining industry.
Tim's pro-business positions led the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to present to him the prestigious “Spirit of Free Enterprise Award,” while labor unions have endorsed him in part for his work supporting American manufacturing.
Western Pennsylvanians are rightfully concerned about the economy’s health. Because the drive to work is becoming less affordable every day, Tim has supported the Commuter Aid and Relief for Suburbs (CARS) Act, which will give commuters a 10 percent tax break. Our friends and neighbors can take comfort knowing that their Congressman is fighting for their economic security and supporting smart legislation like the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act, which would extend unemployment relief to laid-off men and women who need more time finding new work.
